  • The goal is to have students learn about the basics of life. How we categorize life, how does life begin and how do living things interact with the environment.
I have forty years of teaching experience at the high school level. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Art. Plus, I am a lifetime certified, secondary teacher who continues to learn online.
In recent years, I've taken several online courses to stay current on what is being taught now.
Vital Signs: Understanding What the Body Is Telling Us from the University of Pennsylvania
Drugs, drug use, drug policy, and health from the University of Geneva
Emerging Trends & Technologies in the Virtual K-12 Classroom from the University of California, Irvine

Detalles: Because this is a high school course, all material cannot be learned during class time only. Therefore weekly assignments will be required for the student to master the course. Homework will be reviewed during class time. if the student found an error or didn't know how to answer it, class time is when corrections may be made. All homework must be submitted in the private Outschool classroom prior to class time. Falling behind in homework will mean that the student cannot be able to respond to questions in class. If this is the case, the student will still participate by reading or answering the question logically. They are not excepted from participating.

Detalles: Students will be assessed with periodic practice online quizzes and students can record their results privately. Their grade is not solely on these results. Students grades are based on a point system. Each assignment turned in is logged into my grade book for accountability. The class reviews the homework orally during class time. If they have found an error, they may correct it as we go along. Class discussions, submitted assignments, and oral assessments are what I base the student's grade on. The Project and presentation will be peer-assessed. I have an online rubric that students fill in and is privately submitted automatically. Presentations are required to receive a completed grade.
