Meet some fellow powerful aspiring activists and learn about those that have changed the world! This course is designed as an introduction to feminist theory for boys (and girls if they want this perspective!) interested in making a difference, specifically with promoting gender equality. In this hero for supersheroes crash course, the students will learn about “sheroes,” women that have changed the world for the better. The learners will get inspired by all sorts of role models, from a French scientist to an Olympic gymnast, and even a professional surfer! The class will start by defining what it means to be a feminist is (who it's for, how it's a fight for both boys and girls, and why it's important). Afterward, we will break down how the media portrays "heroes" and examine why we should add sheroes to this representation too. We will do so through a trivia game and brainstorm about superstrengths. A diverse range of sheroes from around the world will be included. Then, the learners will discuss what lessons they learned and think about their own super strengths. Finally, the learners will make a craft about what makes each of them powerful! This class is creative, dynamic, and active. Students should come curious and are guaranteed to leave inspired! My teaching style is enthusiastic, creative, and engaging. I am a flexible person and try to adapt to all learning styles and strengths. I believe classes should be guided by interest, so will adjust the conversation according to student's interest. Any requests for sheroes are welcomed to be submitted before! Students will be encouraged to participate with the class through video and chat features. No previous knowledge is required. All I ask is that you have an open mind :)
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will gain a toolkit for how to talk about and participate in the fight for equality. They will both discuss famous sheroes and learn how to celebrate sheroes in their own life.

I have run both co-ed and single sex version of this course in person and online. I have worked with students, particularly those in middle school and early high school, for 8+ years. I have spent the last two years working on conversational skills with 8-11 year olds. My training in women's and gender studies equips me with the tools and vocabulary for these topics and I am versed in bringing these topics into classrooms for students of younger ages.
