In this course, students will learn the components of a friendly letter. We will then use the writing process (pre-writing/brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to write a friendly letter to someone as if we are students at Hogwarts. Students will learn to organize their thoughts while brainstorming, and then transform those thoughts into a cohesive, informative letter. Students will revise and edit with a peer using Zoom breakout rooms and an editing checklist that will be provided.

Students will use the writing process to write a letter.

Students will need knowledge of the Harry Potter series (at least the first book). They will be writing a letter as if they are attending Hogwarts, so should know something about Hogwarts, classes, and people at the school, as well as the wizarding world at large.

Hello all! I'm so excited to get to know you and see you in the classroom! I have 7 years of teaching experience and love to teach all ages and subjects. I have my M.Ed in teaching, and most of my teaching experience is in upper elementary and ESL education. Classes I offer include French, writing, life skills, Harry Potter, elementary science and math. Everything I do in the classroom stems from the belief that every child can learn. I also believe that my job as a teacher is first to keep my students safe (physically, emotionally, etc.), then to help them learn, then to help them have fun.
