Experiencia de clase

Students will learn a few basic painting skills while creating their masterpiece. They will enjoy creating the blend of colors in the sky while making their sunset. Students can choose to use other sunset colors as well if they like. They will also learn to create light effects when painting the sun and clouds. Students will learn how to create natural looking marsh plants and tree silhouettes, and they will paint dragonfly silhouettes. Students can choose how many plants and dragonflies to add, as well as any other details to make their artwork unique.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and interact with each other throughout the class. Students are also encouraged to upload a picture of their completed painting after class to show off their creation!

Students do not need to have previous experience painting. I will be guiding them step-by-step with live demonstration and pausing for questions as needed. It is important to encourage your learner to ask questions if they need to, and to remember that art is unique. The best part is seeing how different everyone's painting turns out to be!

**Your learner may use different styles of paint (tempera, craft, washable, etc.), but be aware that different types of paint do not always work the same way. If different styles are used, the results will vary.**

Orientación para padres
Parental supervision or guidance is suggested for inexperienced or younger learners. Acrylic paint will wash off of skin and surfaces such as tables, but it will stain clothing. It is suggested that your learner wear clothing that you don't mind getting paint on, and that your learner is in an area that can be wiped down. I suggest putting newspaper or paper towels under the area where your learner will paint in case of spills.
Lista de útiles escolares
Learners will need acrylic paint in the following colors:
-Purple (I am using "Brilliant Purple" by Liquitex)
-Pink (I am using "Medium Magenta" by Liquitex)
-White (I am using "Titanium White" by Liquitex)
-Black (I am using "Mars Black" by Liquitex)

Learners will need also need:
-A canvas, any size 11 x 14 or smaller should be fine. I usually paint on a 5 x 7 or an 8 x 10.
*OR*
-As an alternative to using a canvas, painters may choose to paint on mixed media paper or other thick painting paper. That is perfectly fine as well! Some painters prefer canvas, and some prefer paper. It is really up to you!

-Two flat paint brushes: one larger (a size 8-12) and one smaller (a size 0-2). Any brand is okay.

-A cup for water to clean your brushes.
-A paint palette, or a paper plate to use as a paint palette.
-An easel is optional! If you chooses to paint without an easel, make sure to have a flat surface that is protected by paper towels, newspaper, or butcher's paper.

***Notes***
I recommend using the brands Liquitex or Arteza for your paint as the quality is a little better but they are still priced well. Brands such as Craftsmart are okay too, but they are a little thinner and sometimes require more paint when making your masterpiece.

There are many good canvases and thick papers that you can choose from. The basic sets from the art supply store are usually good! You can usually find the paint, brushes, paper, and canvases at Michael's or JoAnn's. Amazon and some other online sites have some supplies as well, but please allow time for shipping if you choose to shop online.

Your learner may use different styles of paint (tempera, craft, washable, etc.), but be aware that different types of paint do not always work the same way. If different styles are used, the results will vary.

Paint Brush Tips: Sometimes the brush hairs come out of new brushes when you paint, so I recommend "water painting" a cardboard box or a paper plate. You can wet the brush and swirl it around, tap it, and do brush strokes with the brush to get out any lose bristles before you paint. It is also important to clean your brushes and let them dry properly after painting so that they work properly next time.
