Experiencia de clase

Students will learn and practice a few skills while creating their masterpiece. First students will utilize drawing skills to follow along and draw the outline of the polar bear. They will create a background for their polar bear while learning how to use dark and light colors to create tone. Then students will learn how to paint the parts of the polar bear. Students can decide what color to make their scarf as we add some details. Finally, students will learn how to use a small brush to create snowflakes!

Students are encouraged to ask questions and interact with each other throughout the class. We will take a brief painting break about halfway through to stretch if needed. Students are also encouraged to upload a picture of their completed painting after class to show off their creation!

Students do not need to have previous experience painting. I will be guiding them step-by-step with live demonstration and pausing for questions as needed. It is important to encourage your learner to ask questions if they need to, and to remember that art is unique. The best part is seeing how different everyone's painting turns out to be!

Orientación para padres
Parental supervision or guidance is suggested for inexperienced or younger learners. Acrylic paint will wash off of skin and surfaces such as tables, but it will stain clothing. It is suggested that your learner wear clothing that you don't mind getting paint on, and that your learner is in an area that can be wiped down. I suggest putting newspaper or paper towels under the area where your learner will paint in case of spills.
Lista de útiles escolares
Learners will need acrylic paint in the following colors:
-Blue (I use "Phthalocyanine Blue" by Liquitex)
-White (I use "Titanium White" by Liquitex)
-Black (I use "Mars Black" by Liquitex)
-Silver (I use "Silver" by Liquitex) or Gray

*Chose colors for your scarf. Examples:
-Gold, Silver, Black, Red, Blue

Learners will need also need:
-a pencil and eraser
-A canvas or heavy mixed media paper. I will be using a 5x7 canvas for demonstration, but any size canvas or paper will be okay.
-Two flat paint brushes: one larger, and one smaller. One detail brush (rounded and pointed like a pencil). Any brand is okay.
-A cup for water to clean your brushes.
-A paint palette, or a paper plate to use as a paint palette. Acrylic paint can stain, so don't use a regular plate.
-An easel is optional! If you chooses to paint without an easel, make sure to have a flat surface that is protected by paper towels, newspaper, or butcher's paper.

You can buy the canvases, the paints, and the supplies at the art supply stores (Michael's or Jo-Ann's), or in bulk on Amazon. Please allow time for shipping if you choose to shop online.

Paint Brush Tips: Sometimes the brush hairs come out of new brushes when you paint, so I recommend "water painting" a cardboard box or a paper plate. You can wet the brush and swirl it around, tap it, and do brush strokes with the brush to get out any lose bristles before you paint. It is also important to clean your brushes and let them dry properly after painting so that they work properly next time.
