In this one-time class, we will discuss why we sometimes have trouble sitting still and focusing. Daydreaming can be the brain's way of telling us that we need to move. It helps us to understand what our body needs for success. These hand-brain exercises can be done right in the middle of a class, chore, sport, and more to get you back on track and concentrating again. I will explain the body's brain hemispheres using a simple diagram and explain how our brains control our bodies through specific movements so they know what they are trying to accomplish during our exercises. I will demonstrate FIVE brain exercises that our learners will practice. -TWO will help with activating the left and right brain. -TWO will help with concentration and attention. -ONE will help with decision-making. After learning these five brain exercises, we will discuss our favorites and talk about which we might choose to use in different situations. I will present scenarios, or the students will share their own scenarios, and the learners will discuss which exercise they feel would be the most useful and appropriate. A printout with written directions will be available after the class and the video will also be posted.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
For the past few years I have researched how to help my students and my own children focus on and complete the tasks assigned to them. My son has ADHD inattentive type and sees a functional neurologist who has taught us various brain exercises that help my son to focus throughout the day. In addition to what he has taught us, I have attended professional development conferences, read books on brain balance, and learned through searching articles and videos. I am currently enrolled in a course that is further training me on the specifics of helping students with Executive Function for attention, memory, and self-regulation.
For years I have taught my 2nd graders various brain exercises to help them with their academic and emotional successes throughout the day. They love feeling that sense of control. I can't even count the number of times my administrators and colleagues have commented on how focused and engaged my students are in class. Once you help the kids understand how the brain works, the rest can start to fall into place.
