In this one-time class we’ll explore 4 interesting creatures who call Antarctica home: The Orca, Elephant Seal, Macaroni Penguin, and the Antarctic Giant Petrel. Students will review continents through an interactive slideshow, identify 7 countries with territorial claims to Antarctica, and discuss fun facts about each animal. Throughout the lesson, students will be asked questions to encourage critical thinking and improve retention. Map skills, literacy and vocabulary are also enforced as students follow along reading while learning new terminology. Key terms: katabatic, olfactory, unihemispheric, matriarchal, pinneped, proboscis, molt, naricorn After learning about the animals, we'll play "Guess That Sound!" and take turns guessing the correct animal. To check for understanding, students will select their favorite animal and tell the class one thing they learned at the end of the lesson. Sibling Discount available upon request!
