Gardening is fun, and we can help each other grow! This is a weekly club to talk about all things garden-related and learn how to grow our own food. Each week there will be a new lesson on gardening, and students will be able to ask questions and share progress on their own gardens. The goal of this club is for students to have fun while learning, gain knowledge about gardening, and receive support and advice from the teacher for their own gardens. No prior gardening experience is necessary! New students are welcome to join in at any point, as each session will be geared towards newcomers. Lesson topics will include: botany, garden planning, healthy soil, seeding, companion planting, watering, pollinators, composting, harvesting, and suggestions for delicious garden-fresh meals and snacks!

Week of June 18: How to take great care of our plants

Week of June 25: Natural fertilizing

Week of July 2: Seed saving

Week of July 9: Food regrowing

Week of July 16: Multiplying our plants by propagating

Week of July 30: Seed starting for a fall crop

Margo Mejia is a garden education consultant. She has been teaching gardening and farming classes in Chicago since 2013. She holds a Master’s degree in Organic Agriculture and Food Systems, and a certificate in Edible Landscaping and Container Design.
