When a student takes this class they can expect a fun and interactive journey through the tale of how Hercules fought and quickly triumphed over Geryon then painstakingly struggled to drive his cattle back to Eurystheus. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of some of Hercules' exploits. Images and some video will be shared to help bring the story to life and as the storyteller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Class sizes are kept small to ensure students are given ample opportunity to interact with the teacher and are encouraged to keep microphones on (if surroundings are quiet) so they may freely communicate. Specifically, we will learn about the origin of Geryon and his lineage from the blood of Medusa, the origin of Geryon's mother Callirhoe from Oceanus and Tethys, Chrysaor the brother of Pegasus, Orthus the two headed brother of Cerberus, Hercules establishing the Pillars of Hercules and the Strait of Gibraltar, Hercules sailing the sea in a goblet gifted from Helios, Hercules fighting Geryon and his entourage, Hercules entrusting the herd of Geryon to Hephaestus, Hercules wrestling King Eryx, Hera sending a gadfly to scatter the herd, and finally Hercules filling the river Strymon with rocks to quickly navigate the herd back to King Eurystheus.
