Join "Greek and Latin Roots" to expand your vocabulary and develop a strong understanding of how Greek and Latin roots influence the English language. Each week, we will explore a new set of roots, prefixes, and suffixes, teaching you how to decode unfamiliar words and apply them in context. Tailored for students aged 14-18, this course goes beyond memorization and focuses on using vocabulary to excel in tests, essays, and everyday communication.

What Will Be Taught?

Each class is a journey into the fascinating world of word origins. We will dive deep into the structure of the English language by focusing on Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. You will learn how to recognize these elements in words, deduce meanings, and apply your vocabulary in various academic and real-world contexts. We will also focus on high-frequency words found in SAT/ACT exams, giving you a head start on test preparation.

Class Structure

This course is designed to be both educational and engaging. We will meet once a week for 55 minutes, with each session dedicated to exploring specific roots, prefixes, and suffixes. The classes will include real-world applications and opportunities for students to actively participate. By the end of each session, students will have learned new vocabulary and practiced applying it in writing tasks, discussions, and quizzes.

Teaching Style and Interaction

My teaching style is highly interactive, encouraging students to explore and engage with the material. You will not only learn vocabulary definitions but also see how words come to life in writing and discussion. Each week, we will engage in:

•	Interactive Discussions: Students will share their insights, discuss the origins of words, and use new vocabulary in context.

•	Games and Quizzes: To reinforce learning and make mastering vocabulary fun. These quizzes will be integrated directly into our Zoom sessions, with no need for third-party tools.

•	Writing Exercises: Each session will include a brief writing task where students can practice using their new vocabulary.
Metas de aprendizaje
Vocabulary Expansion: Learn and internalize 5-10 new vocabulary words each session, focusing on Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes.
Understanding Word Origins: Develop a deep understanding of how words are formed, empowering you to deduce meanings of unfamiliar words independently.
