We will meet for a one time zoom class to discuss the graphic memoir Smile by Raina Telgemeier. Students should plan to have read the book prior to our meeting time to avoid spoilers and be ready to engage in a class discussion of the book. This will be a relatively informal class discussion in which all learners will have the opportunity to speak, ask questions and have their voices heard. I will have a list of discussion questions but learners can feel free to bring their own questions to the conversation.

Although Smile is not a violent story, there are moments of teeth-related gore that might gross out some readers, especially when Raina falls and loses her front teeth and leaves a pool of blood on the asphalt.
You'll also find plenty of accounts of middle school crushes, fake friends, and typical stressors that a girl might go through in the middle school years. The book quickly spans through four years of the author's life so she matures as the book progresses.
