In this course, we cover the Canadian Curriculum workbook for grade 2. Yet, we go much deeper into subjects through riddles, games, jokes and fun sharing time. If you are a curious and inventive student, then this is the place for you. Classes proceed as follows 1) Warm greeting 2) Workbook time (I use a demonstration camera to show my book and pencil along with my face :) 3) Creative time where we turn the lesson concept into a riddle, joke, narrative, or game 4) Show and tell to build confident expression My style of teaching follows a trend of high curiosity. Many learners who are curious, but struggle to get the workbook pages done thrive in my classes. Additionally, I am a big proponent of social-emotional learning and emotion coaching. I want to make sure that every student enters and exits each session feeling confident and balanced. Learners interact with each other during question time, group problem solving, and show and tell. One aspect of learning that is so important is that of social momentum. Therefore, I make sure learners get a chance to interact. We cycle through the book continually. So each student can join at any time. I make sure concept are clear for any level. Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello Parents!
I hope to guide children like yours to a world of exploration. Let's face it. They are already curious and exploring. They just need an expert guide to help them place their ideas and questions in a learning context.
I am a research scientist by profession and training, and I have worked with youth in five countries (Canada, US, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Brazil) from seven different first language households (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Maya Q'eqchi', Maya Mopan, and Yoremnokki).
Topics I focus on include STEM, inventing classes, and social-emotional awareness classes.
My best teachers and professors incorporated lessons of self-discovery, and I offer that same joy of learning to your children. When children share their curiosity with other interested children they gain a great sense of self-esteem. Additionally, show-and-tell of a treasured toy or a creative invention helps build up confidence as well as make for really fun class sessions!
See you in class,
Dr. Drew
Here is a bit more information about me below.
Education and experience:
Ph.D. University of California Riverside - Plant Biology with a concentration in Ethnobotany. This means I explored how families use plants, I held botany workshops in schools, and I did field and laboratory work on the biology of these plants.
M.S. Loma Linda University - Biomedical Sciences with a focus on physiology. This means that I had the fortune to research how arteries develop in the brain, use a proton beam for experiments in the NASA Lab, and learn how to write scientific articles.
B.S. Walla Walla University - Biochemistry with a focus on onion and garlic chemistry. This means that I stunk up my mother's house with the distillation of onion scents to explore the wonderful world of sulfur chemistry.
U.C. Davis Entrepreneurship Academy - Week-long course on entrepreneurship.
École des Entrepreneurs du Québec - Year-long course on entrepreneurship.
