Students will unpack the concept of “Leadership as Influence” identify what it means to be a leader and an influencer. They will come away with an action plan of what their leadership and influence might look like in the spaces within which they engage. - Students will: • Engage in discourse around the principles and concepts of Youth Leadership with a focus on Young Girls • Answer these questions -What is leadership? What is youth leadership? -What does it look like? What can it look like? -Why the need to lead? -How can developing your capacity to lead as a Young Girl impact and inform both your personal, and professional life as a student? • Examine the challenges of leadership • Facilitate the unpacking and building of a collective and personal narrative around leadership • Create for themselves a leadership profile The format of the class will include: Assigned readings mainly articles In class discussions dependent upon the size of the class there will be small group discussions (zoom breakout rooms) Viewing age/stage appropriate media Homework -Reflective
I am an experienced inspirational educational leader, workshop developer, researcher, and presenter on the areas of Structural Inequities; Educator Efficacy; and Lessons in Leadership. An educator with 30 plus years experience, I have been a classroom teacher, teacher leader coach, and I currently serves as a school principal. I have taken my skill sets in the areas of learning, leadership, and change, beyond the schoolhouse and have helped organizations to design systems and structures that support and advance their leadership teams. I have taught a summer leadership class for young Girls of Color for the past four years and have had both students and parents share how impactful the class has been for them.
