Welcome to a dynamic, interactive homeroom designed for curious and motivated learners aged 9-12! This class will ignite your child’s love of learning through critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Students will develop key skills in problem-solving, teamwork, self-directed learning, and creative expression. Each session explores interdisciplinary topics designed to stretch their thinking and inspire their passions. Over the course of this homeroom, students will delve into: -STEM challenges and real-world problem-solving -Philosophy and ethics discussions (e.g., “What makes a good leader?”) -Creative writing and storytelling -Environmental awareness and advocacy -Cultural studies and global traditions -Collaborative projects, like class magazines or group stories -Students will also have the opportunity to work on personal passion projects, showcasing their unique talents and interests. This class meets twice weekly on Monday and Thursday, creating a perfect cadence for a homeschool or online school schedule. Day 1 focuses on exploring new topics through activities, group discussions, and mini-lessons.Day 2 provides opportunities for students to share their work, reflect, and connect through games, peer presentations, or collaborative projects. Each session is interactive and designed to engage learners with: -Live discussions that encourage critical thinking and active participation -Collaborative activities in breakout rooms for teamwork and problem-solving -Creative challenges and hands-on exploration -Digital tools, such as polls, trivia games, or shared digital workspaces This class emphasizes interaction. Students will collaborate in small groups for activities and problem-solving. Regular discussions and Q&A sessions encourage participation. Each student will have time to present and receive feedback on their work. Reflection activities and games create a fun and engaging community. My teaching style is highly interactive, student-centered, and supportive. I strive to cultivate a classroom where every student feels heard and valued. Sessions are designed to balance structure with flexibility, allowing students to explore their interests while staying engaged with planned activities. Sample Topics Over 8 Weeks Week 1: Icebreakers & Passion Projects Kickoff (January 6 + 9) Day 1: Get to know each other, set goals, and start brainstorming personal passion projects. Day 2: Explore creative ways to present passions (e.g., timelines, digital slideshows). Week 2: Global and Cultural Studies (January 13 + 16) Day 1: Research and discuss a global festival or tradition. Day 2: Create a collaborative cultural trivia game or country fact map. Week 3: Logic Puzzles (January 20 + 23) Day 1: Introduction to logic puzzles + how to sole Day 2: Share our own logic puzzle creations. Week 4: Creative Writing and Storytelling (January 27 + 30) Day 1: Learn storytelling basics, then write a short scene or poem. Day 2: Share writings and provide constructive peer feedback. And so much more! Future topics will be organized through student interest and feedback

This class is defined for gifted students. I have had training around twice exceptional, ADHD, dyslexia, and ASD. Any gifted student student who finds the pace, depth, complexity, or rigor of grade-level classes inadequate will fit here.
Requisitos previos
Students will be most successful if they read/comprehend at about a 4th grade level, although the teacher will differentiate texts, fonts, and formats to meet student needs (e.g. a student with dyslexia who requires audio support).
