This is a faster-paced class where students will discover and practice the art skill of gestural drawing. Gestural drawing is crucial to learn as it is the foundation underneath many sketches, drawings, and paintings. Gestural drawing is done in a quick manner, allowing the artist to embrace their mistakes rather than concentrate on them. Gaining knowledge of this skill will allow your learner to comprehend and understand how to break objects down into shapes/lines in the future. The class is taught through guided-demonstrations, where students observe the teacher then complete the step(s) on their own paper. Students will practice making the general shape of three different trees, and then will work on semi-intentional mark making. Students will learn how to hold a pencil effectively to help aide in their success with gestural drawing, and will be able to take this knowledge with them as they practice drawing other subjects after class. Students may ask questions as needed. At the end of class, students are encouraged to share their artwork with the class. *No prior knowledge is required.

Hello parents and students!
I love to use a variety of media to keep the creating process fun and exciting. Some of the media we will use are: pencils, markers, crayons, colored pencils, oil and chalk pastels, acrylic paint, watercolors, pen, and more!
I graduated in 2014 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BSED in Art Education and a Dance Minor in Choreography. I have experience teaching every grade level from Pre-K through 12th grade in both Kansas and Texas. Some of the courses I have taught are: Elementary Art, Drawing and Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics, and also Intro to Art. This is my 8th year teaching art in a public school setting.
Scaffolding the necessary skills for learning art such as problem-solving, collaborating, and self-reflecting are woven intricately into my teaching. When producing my own artwork, I often find inspiration in flowers/nature.
I also have two large Newfoundland dogs (Bruin & Orso) and love to take them for walks when I am not busy teaching. You might even see them say "Hello!" during a class or two! I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
"Creativity takes courage." -Henri Matisse.
