Have fun with our challenge Kahoot on life in Africa, south of the Sahara. you will not need any specific knowledge of this topic, before class begins. This class is part of a series I offer to help students have fun studying physical & human geography around the world. Perhaps your student does not know much about Africa. This class introduces students to the major regions south of the Sahara. On the other hand, perhaps your student knows this region very well. Then this class can serve as a review. Trivia fans are welcome! This geo bee (#8) focuses on human geography plus landforms, anthropology and some details of natural resources and economies. Class will begin with a review of 26 concepts and terms such as: country names, locations, geographic features and comparative information about countries and their people. To help students prepare, a handout is provided that includes a link to online map games, plus a list of terms and ideas (with brief explanations) that are covered in our challenge. Students can practice with the handout if they want to be more competitive, before class begins. NOTE: You might be wondering why this class focuses on Africa below the Sahara. This geo bee series includes a class (Geography Bee #4) on the Middle East, covering North Africa and Southwest Asia. After introducing/reviewing information, students will participate in a Kahoot challenge that offers a choice of four possible answers to each question, along with a picture clue. Kahoot is a game show format. Questions include simple definitions, comparisons of similar terms, application questions and examples. This quiz is designed for students with a minimal understanding of the map of Africa. Students can practice with interactive, online map puzzles before class, and use the blank map to label countries. The handout, which we could call our 'cheat sheet' is attached to our greeting message after students enroll. During the Kahoot, students will see the correct answer to each question immediately after each answer is tallied, allowing them to reinforce correct understanding. After our Kahoot quiz is completed we will review the more challenging terms as time allows. Our contestants (students) will have approximately four opportunities to work with vocabulary, concepts and the map of Africa, reinforcing learning through repetition in a variety of formats. Students will receive a certificate of accomplishment that recognizes completion of the class and their Kahoot challenge. They will also have a good sense of accomplishment!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will demonstrate mastery of up to 26 concepts by practicing for meaning, reviewing, completing a Kahoot game quiz and then reviewing errors. These concepts are embedded in middle school geography curricula. Students will apply vocabulary, map reading, interpret statistics and use new learning to make sense of a question.
