Experiencia de clase

It's easy to get stuck in one type of book. Sometimes you need to step out of the familiar to find new books to love. In this 9 week course we will tour through 9 different genres, reading one book per week and discussing what we love (or don't love) about each genre. We will also share book recommendations from that week's genre to keep the reading going! My hope is that you find new books to love, and new genres to explore.

You will need to read the book for class each week. Whether you read a print book, an e-book, or listen to an audio book is up to you, and depends on your learning style. You might want to take notes for yourself as you read in order to remember points you want to bring up in discussion. This is a discussion-based class. I hope you will participate actively and have a lot to say.

Week 1: Mystery. Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertmen
Week 2: Graphic Novel. Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier
Week 3: Historical Fiction. The Watsons Go To Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis

Orientación para padres
Brown Girl Dreaming is the autobiography of a black woman growing up in the 1960's. It addresses racism, divorce, incarceration, and the death of relatives. While each of these themes is told as a firsthand account of a life, they may raise questions for children who have not previously read or discussed these topics.
Lista de útiles escolares
Each student will need a copy of the book under discussion. They may read in print, e-reader, or audiobook, whatever fits their reading style.
