This class will be a comprehensive review of Pre-Algebra concepts including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers and rational numbers with like/unlike signs, using order of operations, absolute values, exponents, simplifying algebraic expressions, solving 1 and 2 step equations, solving inequalities with integers, graphing points and finding slope. Each class I will review the concepts, go through example problems and provide practice problems that we will work on together as a class. I will provide review notes and practice problems at least 24 hours before class that the students can download and print out to work on for class. The class will be interactive as we review concepts and work through problems together. This is a Pre-Algebra review class so students should have a solid math foundation through at least sixth grade prior to taking this class. The purpose of the class is to review Pre-Algebra skills to prepare students for Algebra class. Below is a breakdown of the concepts being taught each week.

Week 1, Class 1: Operations with rational numbers
-Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing integers with like/unlike signs
-Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing rational numbers with like/unlike signs

Week 1, Class 2: Order of Operations, Absolute Value and Exponents
-Reviewing and practicing order of operations
-Reviewing and practicing absolute value
-Simplifying and using properties of exponents

Week 2, Class 3: Evaluating and Simplifying Algebraic Expressions
-Reviewing and practicing evaluating algebraic expressions
-Simplifying algebraic expressions by combining like terms
-Simplifying algebraic expressions by the distributive property

Week 2, Class 4: Solving one-step equations
-Solving one-step equations with whole numbers: addition and subtraction
-Solving one-step equations with whole numbers: multiplication and division
-Solving one-step equations with rational numbers: addition and subtraction
-Solving one-step equations with rational numbers: multiplication and division

Week 3, Class 5: Solving two-step equations, writing equations, solving proportions
-Solving two-step equations with whole numbers
-Writing Algebraic equations
-Writing and solving proportions

Week 3, Class 6: Solving one-step inequalities, Graphing Inequalities
-Solving one-step inequalities with integers: addition and subtraction
-Solving one-step inequalities with integers: multiplication and division
-Graphing Inequalities

Week 4, Class 7: Graphing and Slope
-Graphing points in the coordinate plane
-Finding the slope of a line
-Graphing linear equations written in slope-intercept form

Week 4, Class 8: Distance Formula, Y- Intercept, Systems of linear equations
-Using the distance formula to find the length of a line segment
-Finding the y-intercept
-Solving systems of linear equations by graphing
