Summer Session!!! **6 weekly classes from June 16 to July 22** Let's play games! Students will practice interacting and taking turns while playing games, drawing, and more. At the beginning of class, students will introduce themselves. They can do a short show and tell or share a favorite part of their week during their introduction. This is a great way for students to practice speaking to others and a way for students to get to know each other. After introductions, students will play a board game which I will share on my screen. During the game, students will either answer a question, ask another player a question, or choose to see a fun image when they land on a space with a star (or specific color). If time allows, the class will include a second activity. Each week has a different theme. Some weeks will include themes related to an upcoming holiday: New Years, Valentine's Day, St Patricks Day, Easter (eggs), Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas (Santa) (Holiday game boards are not religious, however, children will be able to share if and how they celebrate the holiday). ****Summer 2024 Themes:**** <June 17>- Camping - secondary activities include: Zoom "Go Fish" or Draw a Fish Game <June 24> - Ice Cream - secondary activities include: Build an Ice Cream Cone or Draw an Ice Cream Cone <July 1> - Travel - secondary activities include: Would you Rather Questions or Make a Face. <July 8> - Sharks - secondary activities include: Feed the Shark, Draw a Shark, or Zonk Game <July 15> - Ocean - secondary activities include: Draw a Dolphin / Mermaid, Build a Mermaid Scene, "Go Fish" <July 22> - Pirates - secondary activities include: Build a Pirate or Roll & Draw a Wacky Bird For each class please have a deck of cards, markers/crayons/pencils, and paper available. Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.
All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.
(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
