Students will participate in formative self-assessments, including verbal discussions with the teacher. The emphasis will be on constructive critique, developing self-assessment skills, and cultivating a resilient approach to the artistic process. This year-long program is designed for middle school students who are eager to develop their artistic abilities, deepen their understanding of art history, and explore their unique creative expression. Over the course of 36 weeks, students will learn a variety of artistic techniques, study key movements in art history, and build a professional portfolio showcasing their progress and personal style. WHAT THIS PROGRAM OFFERS: In this course, students will master a wide range of traditional art techniques, such as drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture. Beyond technique, they will dive into the study of major art movements, learning how historical and cultural contexts influenced the work of famous artists. WHAT WE WILL COVER ✧ Artistic Techniques ✧ Art History ✧ Building a Portfolio ✧ Art Critique ✧ Interactive Learning OUR FOCUS Weeks 1–9: Foundational Skills and Techniques ╰┈➤ Focus: Introduce and explore the fundamental elements and principles of art, building basic technical skills in drawing, still life, color theory, and texture. Weeks 10–18: Media Exploration and Art History ╰┈➤ Focus: Expand on media techniques (gesture drawing, human figure, painting, landscape, abstraction) and integrate key movements in art history (Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism), focusing on how these relate to the techniques being taught. Weeks 19–27: Advanced Techniques and Sculpture ╰┈➤ Focus: Introduce 3D techniques (sculpture, relief sculpture, printmaking) and continue integrating art history (Renaissance, Modern Sculpture, Cubism) to deepen understanding of form, depth, and composition. Weeks 28–36: Portfolio, Refinement, and Conceptual Art ╰┈➤ Focus: Transition to conceptual thinking and portfolio development, encouraging self-expression through conceptual art, installation, and refinement of work for peer critique and exhibition. WEEKS 1 - 9 1: The Elements of Art 2: The Principles of Art 3: Line and Value 4: Shape, Form, and Space 5: Color Theory and Application 6: Texture in Art 7: Introduction to Still Life 8: Master Study: Paul Cézanne and Post-Impressionism 9: Creating a Still Life For a full breakdown of the whole program get in touch! TEACHING APPROACH: This program is designed with a balance of structure and creative freedom. Lessons are taught through a combination of short lectures, interactive slides, and project-based activities. Students will explore both technique and history, but will always be encouraged to express their individuality through art. F FURTHER INFORMATION Please note, this is not a Waldorf curriculum class. This is an independent curriculum written by us based around middle school art curriculums. CULTURE & HISTORY While this program includes learning a little about culture and history, this is just to give context and it is not a history class. UNBIASED AND OBJECTIVE This class is taught from an objective and unbiased viewpoint, ensuring that students are exposed to a wide range of artistic styles, traditions, and perspectives without favoring one over another, allowing them to develop their own unique voice and understanding of art.

On occasion we will use Canva 'view-only' mode to show presentations. You do not need a Canva account to do this. It will be shared via the teacher's screen and there is no need for learners to navigate out of the classroom.
On occasion we will share videos related to the weekly topic. These videos will be non-biased and no adverts will shown.
