Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten - 2
In this class we are teaching English Language Arts Writing and Reading concepts. We will review letter sounds and how words are read/spoken as well as the concept of rhyme. In addition we will review the main components of stories: characters, setting, and plot. We will further compare reading and writing topics by engaging with Narrative Poems; the following by Shel Silverstein: "The Acrobats," "Homemade Boat," "Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me, Too," Jimmy Jet And His TV Set," and "Love." Then we will use our knowledge to write a group narrative poem on Powerpoint..

The format of the class is as follows:
-Check In/Attendance
-Reviewing Rules, Outschool and Class based
-Reading Review: Break down words into sounds, review vowels and consonants
-Rhyme Define: Ending sounds being the same
-Play a Rhyme Round Robin Game
-Hear Shel Silverstein Titles, Class guesses Rhyming Words they Might hear and What the plot points might be based on titles. READ!
-Talk about how poem is different than story (focus: formatting, grammar, punctuation)
-Talk about how poem is the same as story (focus: themes, narrative poetry plot arcs, main ideas)
-Brainstorm for our group poem: characters, setting, plot
-Write Narrative Poem

I will teach by doing a lot of conversational and check in discussion. I am a combination of direct teaching (where I am showing or modeling something) and student directed engagement (allowing questions and tangents to be followed, students showing each other) in other words, I like collaborative learning as much as possible over the teacher on a stage concept. I forsee learners really interacting with each other because of my teaching style. We will do a lot of games and interactive learning and the main project is a group writing activity.

Required experience is just good participation. Students who like to raise their hand, talk in class, and share will do better in this collaborative style, cooperative class.

Lista de útiles escolares
Paper, Pencil/Crayon/Marker, OR Dry Erase Board and Dry Erase Markers - all optional. If students want to practice writing or want to write in their own notebook or on paper as we go along to encourage connection with writing and writing material as it is a digital project is always a good extra. I will make time for sharing should it be needed.

I am Mrs. Sarah. My professional career started in 2008. I worked with MD-regulated Child Care and Before/After Care Centers as an Aide, Preschool Teacher, Teacher, Director and Curriculum Coach. I substituted in private and public schools. My smallest group was 8 and the largest, 85 children! Currently I do 1-on-1 tutoring and Morning Before Care. My classes are General Knowledge (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) for Preschool Elementary, Middle, and High School. College aged classes will be life skills based. I hold a Bachelors Degree in English from Towson University and an Associates in Early Childhood Development from CCBC Essex. My pedagogy is that all people are intrinsically designed to learn and understand things through curiosity. I believe playful attitude is best to get academic results. Predetermined age and grade level knowledge should be a guideline not interpreted as the only way to learn. I want students to feel confident and supported in learning whatever they want and I play to their interests. I am a facilitator of skill engagement rather than a gate-keeping expert. I love dressing up when I go to the Renaissance Festival and Bacon is my favorite food!
