I will post a print-out with the outline of Frida that can be printed and traced onto the surface of whatever the student will use in this class, OR the student can choose to draw their own version of Frida from this reference or another one. I will give an overview of who Frida Kahlo was and few examples of her artwork. We will learn a little about her life and art as we paint this portrait. I will teach students who I paint this face with just 2 colors of paint (tan and white). I will paint this portrait as I explain about shading and colors, and I invite the student to experiment and find their own voice as they paint their interpretation of this portrait. Students are welcome to ask questions throughout the class and can share their progress or share their portrait at the end of class (optional).
Metas de aprendizaje
We will learn how to load our brushes with two paints and blend them directly on our paper or canvas to create darker (shadows) and lighter (highlighted) areas of the face. I will demonstrate how to create flowers in a un-structured way.
This is an Art2Learn class, so we will learn a little about who Frida Kahlo, show on the map where she lived and a little about her work as we work on our portraits together.

A file will be posted to the classroom with the outline of Frida to print out and trace onto the surface of their choice (canvas or watercolor paper), and a video of her to trace without carbon paper. Student can opt to draw their own version of Kahlo rather than use the print-out. I just ask that it be done prior to our class. - Canvase or Watercolor Paper (I recommend watercolor paper. (I recommend a Canson XL "watercolor" wire-bound journal as a good beginners journal. The watercolor paper can stand up to paint and water, but works well for simple sketching as well as glue and collage material. They can be found in many Michaels stores, but I ordered my most recent one from Amazon: (https://amzn.to/2XzEI0Q )and it is the 9x12, though there is a 7x10. Just make sure it says "Watercolor" on the front. -pencil & eraser (prior to class) -acrylic paints or markers in bright colors - brushes -water jar -old rag & paper towels

I am a full time Gig/LIVE Caricature Artist for weddings, corporate events, parties, etc. and while that is my “bread & butter”, I love teaching what I’ve learned to kids on Outschool.
I have an education degree and many years of experience teaching and creating art, from fine art to crafty projects, from artful home projects to designing and painting theatre sets for plays and musicals on the stage.
I love to teach children the value of creating art that is a personal and meaningful expression of themselves, helping them loosen up and enjoy the process, the missteps and the "That's good enough to sell!" moments. LOL.
Open mics and sharing are encouraged.
