OVERVIEW: In this 4th Grade Math Enrichment class, students will learn the most critical Common Core Fourth Grade Standards through discussion, practice, and engaging activities. This class is a great supplement to student academic learning. Students will learn multiple math skills and strategies and can be a helpful preview of concepts or as a review and extension to student learning. This class covers critical 4th grade math standards in multiplication, division, fraction/decimal relationships, and geometry and is perfect for students who are current 4th graders for the 2024-2025 school year. There will be opportunities for additional at-home practice between classes, as well. It is highly encouraged that students attend most, if not all weeks of this class. However, you can also enroll students based on the select skills and strategies they wish to review/preview/extend. If you want to enroll based on select skills, please contact me first to confirm the skill for the week (schedule below is subject to change). LESSON STRUCTURE: 1. Introductions- We will review class expectations and our brain break game for the day. 2. Teacher Instruction- Teacher will provide a mini-lesson for the topic of the day. 3. Student Practice- Students will have the opportunity to practice the skill collaboratively and independently. Students will be provided individualized feedback throughout all independent and interactive activities. •Additional practice problems may be provided at the end of each week to allow students additional opportunities for at-home practice. WEEKLY TOPICS/SCHEDULE: This course will provide two 40-minute classes a week. Listed below is a tentative schedule of the content covered each week. This schedule is subject to change, depending on class need, section start date, and holidays. Unless an unplanned emergency arises, parents will be notified at least a week in advance if class will not meet, due to teacher scheduling. Advanced Multiplication: 1. Week of December 2: Multiplication of Fractions/Fractions as Decimals 11. Week of December 9: Comparing and Equivalence of Decimals Geometry: 12. Week of December 16: Identify and Measure Angles CLASS EXPECTATIONS My goal in all of my classes is to encourage participation from all learners in my classes. I review the following expectations at the beginning of each class: 1. Stay on mute unless you have raised your hand and/or Ms. Bria has called on you. (This will allow a respectful environment in which all students have the opportunity to participate fairly.) 2. Be kind to and patient with our classmates and teacher! (I always expect that students are at various levels of ability. I ask for students to be patient with one another to ensure that everyone has "think time". I will provide differentiated scaffolded questions to each learner and additional problems for fast finishers). 3. Annotate on the screen only when asked. (This course is interactive! Students will have the ability to annotate on the screen, if their device allows for this capability. They can also use a piece of paper to show their mathematical thinking, as well.) SIBLINGS Each learner that wants to participate must be enrolled in the class to be fair to all enrolled students. CLASS SIZE In order to differentiate these lessons and provide adequate support to each learner, each of my math courses are limited to five students. I strive to provide quality math instruction to each learner, and I strongly believe that small group instruction is the best strategy. Due to the nature of ongoing classes and the limited space in each of my courses, I am unable to give refunds to students when a class is missed. REFUNDS& TRANSFERS Per Outschool's refund policy "Parents receive a full refund if they withdraw from a class or stop their ongoing class subscription within 24 hours of purchasing a class of any type. A full refund is also provided if a parent stops their ongoing class subscription within 24 hours of auto-renewal."
