PLATFORM:

SKILL LEVEL:
This program is meant for Basic level players. This program requires Basic reading comprehension, Moderate proficiency with computers, and some prior experience with Fortnite.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Fortnite has taken the Esports world by storm and in this camp we’ll teach you how to stay in the center of it all! Like all Connected Camps programs, this class offers a project-based, exploratory classroom environment that sits at the intersection of learning and playing. After all, kids learn the most when they're having fun!

As you improve your raw game mechanics, you’ll also discover the craft of how to think critically and refine your gameplay strategy while under pressure. Like many of the Fortnite pros you see on Twitch streams, you’ll get to practice strategies like utilizing circle rotations and maintaining the high ground.

Over the course of the week, you will:

— Explore the finer practices of effective team communication, work ethic, and problem solving.
— Develop your own unique playstyle through customized keybinds and drill routines.
— Discover productive farming, building, and looting strategies to help maintain a steady supply of resources.
— Learn when to engage in offensive or defensive play and turn skirmishes in your favor.

Best of all, you'll have other Fortnite enthusiasts who will collaborate with you every step of the way!

We start every class with an overview of new topics to explore before we jump into our daily activities. In between our group drills and discussions, you’ll also receive performance feedback from your counselor which allows for better self-reflection and goal-setting. This cycle of constant feedback and practice will enable you to thrive as both a solo and team player regardless of what mode of battle royal you play!

And don’t forget, you’ll get to keep all of the drill courses we use in class so you can continually improve whether you’re practicing solo or with your friends!

PARENTS:
This is a camp for students who love Fortnite and want to improve their gameplay in a supportive online community. We maintain a balance of discussion time and play in each session so students can fully understand and practice the concepts they learn.

Fortnite is a game that places great emphasis on excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to foresee the actions of other players. Just like physical sports, getting good at an esports game requires consistent practice and we do this by teaching students how to set and train toward realistic goals.

In this camp, your child will develop their self-confidence through personal achievements as they receive valuable academic and professional insights into the game they love. Please note that we will be asking for your camper's in-game username so that we can connect and play together.
Metas de aprendizaje
— Day 1 - Set Up and Playing With Others: Our primary goal for this day is to assist students in setting up Fortnite and to familiarize kids with our camp’s objectives. We start off the camp with an icebreaker to create a comfortable space for kids to get to know each other. In this session, we’ll concentrate on interpersonal skills and how to communicate effectively with each other during team play.

— Day 2 - Drop Points, Looting, & Circle Rotations: Students will learn about the various drop points on the map, how to loot effectively, and perform circle rotations. They will also get to practice these skills in game.

— Day 3 - Farming and Building Under Pressure: Our counselors will show students how to farm effectively from wood to steel and how to acquire the materials they need in game. Students will learn and then practice their turbo building skills.

— Day 4 - Skirmishing: Students will discover how to evaluate their current battles to determine if a skirmish could go in their favor. They will also learn ways to reduce the probability of an ambush and how to maintain higher ground.

— Day 5 - Goal-setting and Training Routine: Self-improvement is an ongoing process so we will equip students with ideal ways in which they can train in Fortnite and find pain points they can improve upon. Students will also learn how to adapt to their own style of gameplay and discover what play style works best for them.

Internet safety is a top priority for us and our goal is to create a safe, connected community of learners that is moderated by our instructors. Throughout our programs we strive to educate our learners on internet safety and best practices for connecting online. In our programs, our learners are often making friendships and connections with others in class. While we encourage positive online friendships, we think it’s important to practice these principles of internet safety: — Do NOT ask others to connect online outside of our programs without first confirming with your parents. Our programs are a safe, moderated space for learners to engage but we can’t moderate connections outside of our classes. — Do NOT give away personal information which includes but is not limited to: your name, address, phone number, passwords, location, email address, and parental information. — If an individual asks for personal information, you should inform a counselor or your parent for guidance. ——— Common Sense Media Resources for Parents: https://www.commonsense.org/education/videos/keeping-games-fun-and-friendly Keeping Games Fun and Friendly: learn how to keep your child's experiences positive and fun when communicating in online games with others. https://www.commonsense.org/education/video/modal/4141366# The Power of Words: help your child learn that words exchanged online are indeed powerful, and offer strategies to use when confronted with cyberbullying. https://www.commonsense.org/education/videos/private-and-personal-information Private and Personal Information: learn the difference between what personal things your child can safely share online and private information that should not be shared.

Connected Camps is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2015 with the mission to build a global online community where kids build, code, play, and learn alongside one another. Our programs are designed based on extensive research in the learning sciences. The founders and leaders of Connected Camps, Mimi Ito and Katie Salen, are professors at the University of California, Irvine, who specialize in the design of online learning experiences that are fun, social, and directly tied to academic outcomes. Learn more about the research behind Connected Camps at the Connected Learning Alliance resource site: https://clalliance.org/

One thing that makes our programs unique is our near-peer mentorship model. Our programs are led by young adults and college students, often with the help of high school volunteers. We hire counselors and coaches from top universities in computer science, game development, economics, social studies, and the arts, and train them on how to facilitate project-based learning with younger kids. Our young instructors have the same passion for technology, games, and digital making as our learners, and take on the role of instructors, as well as fellow enthusiasts and relatable role models.

The curriculum for this program was designed by a team of counselors pursuing degrees relevant to the material at hand. The learning experiences in this class are driven by these counselors’ academic expertise in the field, along with their desire to share their passion for the subject with a group of excited learners. All of Connected Camps’ curricula are vetted by the organization’s Product Manager, Matthew, who possesses a Masters in Secondary Education and a deep belief in the power of collaborative virtual learning.
