Day 1: Inspiration (Brainstorming Session) It is easy to think that all the recipes have been made and we do not have anything to add. However, everyone has unique experiences and ideas to bring to the table. We will use life experience, fond memories, old cookbooks, and themes to get us thinking of some inspiration for a recipe. Inspiration is not only the place to start when writing recipes, but also a great way to connect with your reader if you put together a cookbook. Tastes and smells are strong memory triggers and are often used for recipe inspiration, but we will also present some other ways we can inspire a new recipe. Day 2: Research (Workshop) We will need to understand ratios of ingredients we would like to use - so we will use reference texts to get some ideas. Alternatives to traditional ingredients can also be explored (such as gluten-free, vegan, or spices). Day 3: Testing (Lecture) After this class, students are encouraged to test their recipes. During this class, we will discuss a few methods that we could use to test the recipe. We will also be introduced to food evaluation techniques. Once a student has cooked/baked their recipe they will use family and friends to get valuable feedback using these evaluation techniques. Day 4: Writing in "Active Voice" (Lecture and Workshop) Once we have a recipe (that is truthfully still a work in process - but a great start) we will need to edit our instructions. In writing, there is passive and active voice which can make reading and understanding a recipe either difficult or easy to follow with success. Students will learn the differences between these with real world examples. They will use this new understanding to edit their recipe.
Metas de aprendizaje

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! am a scientist and adventurer. I have a Masters degree in Animal Science with minors in Chemistry and Fish & Wildlife. I started my journey investigating sheep and goats, went on to study shrimp and zooplankton, and have many years of experience teaching STEM to students from preschool up to college.
The classes that I am currently teaching cover Food Science, Animal Science, Ichthyology, STEM experiments, and Women in STEM.
All my classes are anchored in exciting themes such as "Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse through STEM", "Interesting Animals from A to Z", and "Microscopic Adventures!". I generally have a short presentation which I try to keep 5-10 minutes long with the rest of the class time working with hands on learning. I create all my own high-quality material that your students will enjoy engaging with. My classroom is inclusive to all.
Interesting facts about myself:
1) I am an identical twin.
2) I have studied seabirds in Antarctica.
