This class is perfect to take if you have just gotten a new sewing machine and need some help getting off to a good start! This class is designed for students who have never used their sewing machine before and includes a basic introduction to the sewing machine and a slow yet steady process through the practice of machine sewing and projects. Parents will need to be able to assist for parts of the lessons that will include cutting, ironing, and using needles yet parents do NOT need to have prior sewing knowledge to assist if needed. I use an interactive classroom experience to share weekly instructional videos (if students WANT to use this, if not, all content will also be posted in the regular Outschool classroom). You can see a mock version of the interactive classroom HERE ▶ https://tinyurl.com/98fbjs4j ◀ This class is also available for ages 10-12: https://outschool.com/classes/flex-intro-to-machine-sewing-for-pre-teens-KncelGgA?usid=N36OSZ12&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link This class is also available for ages 6-9: https://outschool.com/classes/flex-intro-to-machine-sewing-for-kids-ilAQO4ai?usid=N36OSZ12&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link Students following this course will learn the following: Week 1- "Meet Your Machine Style" Machine anatomy and how to thread your needle Week 2 - Cool Coaster (or bookmark) Week 3 - Small "monster" pillow with eyeballs (not real ones, don't worry) Week 4 - "Fancy" French Seam Pillowcase Week 5 - Tote-ally cool (and useful!) Tote Bag This is a flexible schedule class that does NOT include live meetings with a teacher. Every Monday I will present new content into the Outschool and interactive classroom for students to use and complete during the week on their own time. Lessons also include additional helpful mini-lessons showing how to use sewing notions, practice and fun sewing themed worksheets, and patterns as applicable to the week. Although there are no live meetings with this class, I am always posting additional encouragements and check-ins throughout each week and answering questions throughout the course in either typed or video format to help students feel supported through their sewing. Each week I will ask students to upload videos and/or photos of their projects and comment on other students' work within the Outschool classroom. A social sewing experience is a fun experience! I will also provide feedback on all submitted photos and questions throughout the duration of the course and I will also be available throughout the duration of the course to answer questions or help with troubleshooting as needed. *By enrolling in my course, you are accessing content created by me personally including lessons, patterns, worksheets, and a virtual classroom experience. Please to not distribute these materials to anyone outside of our classroom.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will progress from not sewing at all to creating the included projects with their sewing machine. Students will gain confidence throughout the course and proudly display their work.

Orientación para padres
Parents may need to be available during the class to assist with potentially dangerous tools such as needles and iron. Younger students may require more help than others.
Lista de útiles escolares
A complete Shopping List will be made available immediately upon enrollment. Additional patterns will be distributed throughout the course as needed. Below is a general supply list outside of specific cuts. **When printing patterns, please do not "Fit to Page". You will also want to make sure to test the 1in square marker on each page for proper sizing. 1. **Sewing Machine (NOT a kid's sewing machine or toy or mini sewing machine - these tend to not be reliable and can create problems. They also have a completely different design than a standard machine.) Please have a standard machine available for this class. Brother and Singer have excellent options for starter machines. 2. All-purpose thread (although I prefer 100% cotton thread to avoid issues) 3. Bobbins 4. Fabric Scissors (serrated works best) 5. Scrap cotton fabric for practicing 6. Seam ripper 7. Pins & Craft Clips 8. Iron & ironing board or mat 9. Elmers Glue STICK 10. Ruler 11. Cotton fabric (exact fabric amounts and cuts available after enrollment) 12. Hand needle 13. Water soluble marker or pen 14. Skinny Wooden Stick or Skewer 15. Small bag of Polyfill stuffing (we only need a tiny amount but this is fun to have around for projects! Students can also use a soft sock to stuff with)
