Experiencia de clase

In this class, we will learn about various Marvel Superheroes and what we can learn about life from each of them. Each week, we will explore how each superhero came into their power (born with it, accident, sought it out, etc). We will then discuss the topics below and how they fit with each character. The class format will be as follows:

Week 1: Captain America - The First Avenger

Week 2: The Avengers - Character motivations; past, present, and future; harnessing power

Week 3: Spider Man, Deadpool, and other unlikely heroes

Week 4: The Guardians of the Galaxy - Teamwork; strengths and weaknesses

Week 5: Villains of the Marvel Universe

Each week, I will post two assignments/ videos for your student. Assignments are going to be optional for this course, however I highly encourage submission for feedback and discussion. Students will critically analyze different Marvel characters, place them in various scenarios, and even discuss how each might fit into our real world today.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
I have been a special education teacher for many years, and I am more than happy to accommodate any unique learning needs for your child!
Orientación para padres
This class is meant to be fun, entertaining, and on an adolescent level. Understanding that within the world of graphic novels sometimes more mature topics can come up, if this occurs I will gently steer the conversation back to the topic at hand and refer the student back to their parent for more detailed discussion. I will also send a message to the parent so that they are aware for follow up.

Hey there! My name is Emily Kendall. My passion for education is to make it fun and purposeful for each student that I get the privilege to interact with!

I am currently a research fellow, earning my PhD in education at the University of Oklahoma. The specialty of my research is to arm students with skills and knowledge to transition from school and into adulthood - no matter what age, it is never too early or too late! I also serve as a military reservist, Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard.

I earned my associate degree in child psychology, then my bachelor of science in education from Liberty University, and then my master of science in special education from Johns Hopkins University.

I teach classes that are based on real-life experience and literature. If a student can connect a concept to an experience, then they are engaging in valuable learning!

For example, my one on one tutoring sessions typically involve the interest of a student (ex. cooking), and my lesson will be constructed around famous chefs/ bakers from history, utilizing math and science skills, even marketing, business, and finance, as these play a role in a career or hobby surrounding cooking.

Please message me with any specific concerns or requests for your child, and let's get started!
