**PLEASE NOTE** This is a SELF-PACED class and is PRE-RECORDED. THIS MEANS STUDENTS WILL WATCH THE PRE-RECORDED VIDEO. There are no live meetings. All interactions between students and the teacher will happen on the class page.
This class will be presented via powerpoint. Students will upload images of their assignments for the teacher to see and comment on. This is particularly important if a final grade is required for homeschool or charter school credit.
Why Self-Paced?
*MY Self-Paced classes ALWAYS cost less than the live versions of the same class!
*Self-Paced classes are an excellent choice for families with busy schedules.
*Content is exactly the same as live classes, at a lower fee.
*Students can work at an independent pace.
*Self-Paced classes are fantastic for international students whose time zone doesn't match the teacher's (US Mountain Time),
*Self-Paced classes are a great alternative for students who are uncomfortable with live video chat.

Our Self-Paced format will be as follows:
Content: Video demonstration of the process will be posted. Videos will vary in length depending on the type of art being presented. Some may be as short as 10 or 15 minutes while others could be ½ hour or more. Student work is expected to take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, depending upon the student’s preferred pace.

Drawing Assignments: Students spend time completing their artwork and submit it via the classroom.

Submit Assignment: Students are required to post photos of their completed artwork in the classroom on the designated post. Keep in mind, uploading artwork for the teacher to see is important for assessment and feedback.

In this extension of Op Art, the Wonderful World of Optical Illusion, students will receive guided drawing instruction on drawing three more types of easy optical illusions, while interacting with each other, sharing their own work, and giving positive critiques to each other throughout the class. *NOTE* The first Op Art class is not a requirement for this one, though this one does have more intricate designs.
It is important to note that I take all learning styles and needs into account and scaffold the instruction and wait time for students to finish accordingly. As some students finish quickly, they may be directed to take a break or begin a new drawing, so that others who work more slowly are given the time to keep up with artists who work more quickly.

Week 1: Students will review (or be introduced to) the concept of Op Art, and draw an optical illusion that looks like a hole in a checkerboard.

Week 2: We will review/look at our art from last week, and will begin a new drawing of a grid that looks three-dimensional. Students may need time on their own to complete the drawing and color it.

Week 3: We will draw one final optical illusion using elements of what was learned in previous classes and will use techniques with either colored pencils or markers (student choice) to get variations in light and dark colors. This lesson may not be completed by the end of class, so I encourage students to finish and upload their art for classmates to see!

As a veteran art teacher and professional artist, I love to draw and paint, and I love to break down what looks like difficult or challenging art processes into steps that kids can follow, no matter what their experience or ability level.
