Nivel Beginner
Hello learners and parents!

In this class for experienced beginners my learners will be taught the basics of flatpicking melodies on the guitar.
(We will not be learning chords in this class, only melodies).

The tunes we will be learning will be posted at least one week before each class so learners will have time to work on them prior to playing them in class.

Included will be two versions of each tune (a super simple one, and a slightly more advanced one for learners to progress to when ready. I will assume that we will focus on the simple version on class but learners are welcome to skip to the second version if they feel ready!)
Each tune will come in both tablature and standard notation.
Also included will be a simple, slow-speed play-along track of each tune.

In each class we will first go over the tune from the previous class, with each learner taking a turn playing it. We will then proceed to spend some time going over the new tune being introduced. There is no pressure to keep up with anyone else or expectation of perfection. We are just going to be having fun exploring a new way of playing guitar!
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will learn about melody versus chords, proper posture, and tips for good tone.

I grew up on a farm in Tennessee (USA) and in addition to music I also love raising rabbits, gardening, and reading! I and my husband currently live with our five beautiful children in the state of North Carolina. I am excited to be part of the Outschool family!

Music has always been a big part of my life, starting with classical piano, which I began at age 8, taking private lessons from a professor at the University of Tennessee. Later on, in my teens, my interests shifted to strings and traditional Appalachian and Celtic music. I learned from many people, including bluegrass musician Justin Moses and as a student of Jim Wood at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. As a young adult, I worked as a volunteer interpreter at Cade’s Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, teaching park visitors about Appalachian music. I have played professionally for weddings and other events, in restaurant house bands, as well as at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN. I have led traditional music demonstrations for public school classes, in addition to teaching privately for many years.
I am passionate about introducing young people to traditional Appalachian and Celtic music and helping them perfect their skills!
I primarily teach fiddle/violin and Appalachian old-time and Celtic music, but also bluegrass, Western swing and Texas contest-style fiddle. I also play guitar, both standard and Celtic (DADGAD), piano, mandolin, recorder, penny whistle, mountain dulcimer, ukulele and Irish bouzouki.

I see each learner as a unique individual and cater my teaching approach to best suit their needs and interests.
