¡Amigos por correspondencia de Stanley Flat!

Esta es una clase de escritura que les enseñará a los estudiantes la forma correcta de escribir una carta amistosa. Se comunicarán con un amigo por correspondencia y llevarán a sus respectivos "Stanley planos" de aventuras por su parte del mundo.

Experiencia de clase

This class will begin by reading the book, "Flat Stanley: His Original Adventure!" together as a class. We will then discuss the dying art form of letter writing. I will teach a guided writing lesson in which the students will begin the first steps of the writing process, brainstorming and organizing their thoughts. The students will color their Flat Stanley template and complete a rough draft of their letter. We will meet again to edit,  assign pen pals and play some Flat Stanley word games. The class will take a two week break in order to allow time for students to receive letters in the mail and have an adventure or two with their pen pal's Flat Stanley. The students will need to document these adventures and write a letter about them to their pen pal. We will meet again to talk about what we learned about our pen pal and their part of the world! If students choose, they can continue corresponding with their pen pal! Parents can give the mailing address first to the teacher so that they can be distributed privately.
The class organization will be as follows:

FIRST MEETING:
- Begin reading "Flat Stanley: His Original Adventure!"
-Discuss the five parts of the friendly letter and address our envelopes
-homework: color Flat Stanley or Stella

SECOND MEETING:
-Continue reading "Flat Stanley: His Original Adventure!"
-Guided writing lesson
-Assign pen pals
-Play Flat Stanley games and comprehension activitites
-homework: write a rough draft of your friendly letter to your pen pal

THIRD MEETING:
-Complete the reading of the book
-edit the letters in breakout groups
-begin our travel journals for Flat Stanley or Stella
-homework: mail your letter and Stanley/Stella to your pen pal
*two week break to go on adventures with your pen pal's Stanley/Stella and document in a travel journal- everyone can also check-in in our online classroom*

FOURTH MEETING:
-presentation of travel journals
-ascertain participation and ensure everyone's Stanley/Stella is enjoying their trip :)
-Flat Stanley word games

Students can continue to correspond with their pen pals!

Students will need a pen or pencil, crayons or markers and lined paper. The instructor will provide the "Flat Stanley" template, graphic organizer and travel journal to download and print out.

I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Special Education with a level 2 certificate as a Wilson Reading System instructor (a multi-sensory reading/phonics program). I taught second grade through eighth grade over the course of fifteen years in the public school system. Currently, I'm a homeschooling mother of three.

I have a passion for teaching Reading and Writing and trying to instill this passion in my students. I love the creative side of teaching and enjoy making my classes as interactive as possible.  

If I am not teaching or spending time with my family, I can be found with my nose in a book or testing new allergy-friendly baking recipes!
