Matemáticas de primer grado: primer trimestre

Nos reuniremos 14 veces para cubrir los estándares de matemáticas de primer grado con un enfoque en desarrollar una comprensión conceptual sólida de los términos y procesos matemáticos. Trabajaremos en sumas, restas, familias de operaciones, problemas planteados y gráficas de barras.

I ask that students keep their camera on for the majority of class. Please reach out ahead of time if this will not work for your child.

Daily Routine:
Warm up: includes but not limited to number talks, addition and subtraction problems, subitizing 

Focus topics for the week: teaching of the topic and practice time

Review of previous concepts

The outline of topics is below. If students have all mastered a concept I will work on next steps to continue their learning and if students are struggling I will provide additional support during practice time. Each week I will give students at least one worksheet they can use to practice math skills outside of class. In addition, I will periodically provide craft ideas and outside resources that are relevant to what we are working on in class. 

14 meetings

Week One (only one meeting): Introductions and Assessing current math ability
Week Two: Addition and Subtraction within 20 using any strategy, Fact Families (Relating Addition and Subtraction), Writing numbers up to 100
Week Three: Addition within 20 using counting on, a number line and making 10, Writing numbers up to 100
Week Four: Subtraction within 20 using counting back, a number line and using place value knowledge, Fact Families (Relating Addition and Subtraction)
Week Five: Word/Story problems within 20, Find the missing number in an equation up to 20
Week Six: Bar graphs (reading, collecting data and creating graphs), Creating equations based on data
Week Seven: Seeing numbers as tens and ones( drawing pictures and creating simple equations)
Week Eight (only one meeting): Review topics covered in this quarter (multiple addition and subtraction strategies, fact families, word problems, bar graphs and seeing numbers as tens and ones)

If class must be cancelled at any time during the quarter the make up day will be during Week Eight.

Students will need a paper and writing utensil. Most weeks students can use a whiteboard instead of a piece of paper if they prefer.
