Hello and welcome to the beginning of first grade! There's so much to learn, discover and explore and this class is full of opportunities to do just that! As a former classroom teacher and full time homeschool mom, I'm excited to offer this semester long class that will have your student feeling happy, excited and confident as they begin a new school year in first grade! Each week we will meet 2 times to cover 2 different subject areas that are crucial to the success of every first grader. Through active engagement, exciting instruction and hands on activities, students will gain the knowledge they need (whether it be new or an opportunity for review) to achieve the tools needed to prepare them for success in school. Each week is based on a theme and all of the lessons will relate to the theme. Making connections in various subject areas helps students to understand and relate to the content that is being taught. Below you will find a sample outline of class content as well as specific areas of study for the first 5 weeks. Additional outlines and information will be updated weekly. Classes listed are in the Central Time Zone. Please note: when new sessions of this class begin, students will cover subjects beginning with week 1. If holiday themed classes are listed and do not coincide with the dates of your particular class, others will be inserted in place of these in order to keep students learning appropriate material for the season/session that they are participating in. Please feel free to email with any questions! Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello & welcome to Outschool! My name is Suzi and I'm excited to share a bit about myself.
I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I have a background in Literacy education and find joy in teaching new things and helping students discover their interests through content and instruction. I think it's important to engage students through storytelling, example and hands on experiences.
As a teacher, I've taught everything from pre-school through high school grades and across all content areas. My favorite subjects to teach are history and math and I have a serious love of language and how to use it, whether it be through writing, speaking or problem solving.
My family and I live in Wisconsin. We have 3 children and 3 dogs (2 guinea pigs and a rabbit) and are originally from the East Coast...but are starting to realize we're destined to be midwesterners! I hope to see you in class soon!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions you might have for classes. I love teaching with Outschool and can't wait to meet your student.
Thank you,
Miss Suzi
