Join me in this first and second grade science adventure! This is semester two of the full curricula. Students do not need to take semester one prior to this class. They can take either semester first as we do review and learn new things!

Every lesson is interactive and includes a hands-on activity or experiment to help students visualize the lesson. I encourage students to share stories, experiences, and any artifacts that they may have for the weekly topic! I also encourage student-led learning, which leads to curiosity and creativity as we learn about new topics.
Students do not have to have prior science knowledge to take this course. It is recommended, but not required, that students take the first semester of this curriculum before this course. This course integrates first and second grade Next Generation Science Standards. My background is in developing science lessons that meet state standards, please feel free to reach out if your state uses different standards and you'd like me to apply them to this curriculum.
Each week I will post optional worksheets and extra activities in the classroom for students to complete, if they choose. This is helpful for students who enjoy the topics and would like to continue being a scientist throughout the week!
I will be available to answer any questions that students post in the classroom within 24 hours. I also encourage students/parents to post pictures of their work or experiments in the classroom. This is a fun way for students to connect as well!

The weekly standards and topics are below:

Week #1- From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Purposes- How humans adapt using structures created from the natural world based on animal adaptations
Week #2- Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy and Dynamics- Seed dispersal activity
Week #3- Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamis- Pollination activity
Week #4- Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics- Experiment with plant growth and light
Week #5- Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity- Biodiversity of life in different habitats
Week #6- Earth's Systems: Using water as a mixture
Week #7 - Earth's Systems: Water as a liquid and a solid
Week #8- Matter and Interactions- Experiment testing materials for absorbency and collecting data like real scientists

The materials for this course will be listed in the classroom prior to class each week. Please feel free to message me after the posting if you cannot find some of the materials and we’ll see if we can’t find an alternative!

*If you don't see a date and time that works for your schedule, please reach out!

Hi! My name is Kristi and I am so happy you ventured over to my science learning lab!

My goal is for students to have fun, maybe get messy, and gain a love for science! My teaching style is interactive and hands-on as I try to bring science to life. My classes work well for the kinesthetic learner.
You will find that most of my classes have a hands-on component to complement the learning experience and my presentations are very visual.

I do my very best to keep prices lower than average as I understand how quickly classes add up for parents. Keeping the prices lower also helps parents as there are material lists for experiments and activities. However, almost every class that I have has a coupon! Please reach out if you need assistance.

When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my daughter outside, gardening, raising chicks, and learning new skills. My goal is to combine some of my hobbies while teaching.

I have been teaching environmental science to students in pre-k through 12th grade for over 12 years. I have taught in various settings including outdoors, in classrooms, and online. I currently run my own business developing and delivering science lessons and custom curriculums to students in school settings, early learning centers, scouts, libraries, and more! I received my B.A.s in Environmental Science and Sociology in 2016 and my M.S. in Resilient and Sustainable Communities in 2019.
