This course is a beginning workshop in Documentary production. We will practice crafting compelling stories from a personal narrative. Each week students will move through the stages needed to create a short documentary portrait (Interview, Sound editing, Video Editing, Export, Share). We will cover story structure, camera and lenses, lighting, sound recording, and editing. Students will produce one film in this course. 

Week 1:Lecture/class meeting -Activity - Building a list of questions & Conducting interview

Week 2:Lecture/class meeting - Activity - B-roll and Video editing

Week 3:Lecture/class meeting - Activity - Sound editing and Final showcase 


Instruction will take place through synchronous class meetings as well as posted lectures and assignments. Each week students will participate in a class discussion as well as submit the weekly assignment to the Outschool classroom for feedback. 



Video production requires that we stick to our deadlines.  Often in production it is more important to complete the project and move forward than it is to attempt perfection.  In a summer workshop putting forth a strong effort and completing the work is most important for growth and learning.
