We will begin our session with a short video on the science behind the colors in fireworks. Students will then introduced to color theory through experimentation with watercolors. We will briefly review mixing primary colors to create secondary colors. Next we will experiment with warm and cool color combinations, followed by analogous colors (colors that are adjacent on the color wheel). Following initial exploration of the materials, we will begin the formal creation of artwork. Students will be shown how to create various types of fireworks by applying glue to their project paper. Students may follow along doing exactly what I am doing on my paper, but will be encouraged to experiment and try their own designs. We will go over the concept of perspective, taking care of art tools, and how to best use the medium of watercolor. I use fun antidotes and analogies to help students remember the concepts learned. If we have additional time left over, students will be encouraged to use the same creative process to create additional works of art of their own design.
