Students will meet and interact with the teacher and each other in a live video chat. We will look at a slideshow created by and presented by the teacher where we will learn about those unique traits that make cats so special to us. How can we tell when a cat is annoyed? Can cats see in the dark? Why do cats have whiskers? What about those tails...why do cats have them? We will discover some fascinating facts along the way and create our own simple no sew cat toy that children can share with their own cat(s). Students are welcome to share their cats; pets or a toy cat at the beginning or end of class. Sometimes my own cat Lewis joins in the fun. If there is extra time at the end of the craft, we may watch a short cat fact video.

Children will learn about the qualities that make cats the incredible animals and pets that they are.
We will discover specific cat traits, what they eat, how they sleep, what they might be trying to say, and many other fun facts.
Students will create their own cat toy for their own very special cat!

Adult guidance will be needed for the cat toy creation. Adults may need to assist the child in various aspects of the toy making process.

Children will need the following supplies for the cat toy: 1. A toilet paper roll 2. A sock that you no longer need without any holes. This sock needs to be large enough so that the toilet paper roll fits inside of it but not huge, at least 7 inches long. 3. Five pieces of ribbon 24 inches long, any color and width up to 3/4 inches wide or yarn 4. 5 beads (if you do not have beads, you may use dried beans, popcorn kernels or grains of rice) 5. A sharp pencil, hole punch or something to poke holes in the toilet paper roll with 6. You may need scissors to cut the sock if it is too long. 7. Marker to draw a face on the toy 8. Small pieces of felt or fabric for ears 9. Glue to glue felt ears on.
