In this 4-week class, “Extreme Weather Around the World,” learners will engage in discussion about extreme weather and such events from around the world! In each class, we will spend half the time learning about a specific type of weather (i.e. hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes) and the other half talking about real weather events that accompany them. I will teach learners how these types of weather form and what conditions are necessary for them to happen here on Earth. Classes will be interactive. I will talk with the learners (as opposed to AT them) and they are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the discussion, with not only myself, but other learners. Learners will have the ability to mute and unmute as they please; though, of course, I ask that learners raise their hands during class. I like to describe my teaching style as “have fun while learning!” Learners will struggle to engage and learn if the class and/or teacher are boring, especially when it’s an online class. I always smile and laugh; I like to believe I’m a fun teacher! These qualities make me a better teacher and that overflows to my learners, whom almost always smile and feel comfortable engaging with the class. An outline of the 4-week course looks like this: Week 1: •Earthquakes/tsunamis •Hurricanes/cyclones Week 2: •Severe thunderstorms •Tornadoes Week 3: •Drought •Sandstorms/haboobs Week 4: •Floods/flash floods •Blizzards/avalanches This outline is subject to change, based on the interests of the learners in the class. During classes, I will share my computer screen that shows a Chrome browser with pictures and videos of extreme weather types and relative events. For sharing videos, I only use premium YouTube (no ads), with child-friendly/age-appropriate videos that are screened before class. Learners do not need to have access to Chrome or YouTube, or any other materials. Learners do not need to have any prior knowledge or experience for this class; extreme weather and how they form will be taught before we move into the discussion about relative weather events.

Orientación para padres
We will be talking about extreme weather events, which some learners might find scary. I will not teach in a scary manner and will leave out details from the events that are not specific to the weather (for example, I won’t mention how many people died or any devastating effects that aren’t necessary for the class).
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Fuentes
I will use YouTube and Chrome on my end. No materials are required.
