This course is designed to provide a comprehensive coverage of the concepts in a Pre-Algebra 1 course. This is Part 1 and will focus on Tools of Algebra, Operations with Integers, Rational Numbers, and Expressions & Equations. Students will apply previous mathematical experiences to solve real world problems. Every class will follow a similar outline. All classes will begin with a short warm up. This could be skills that they may have previously learned before taking this course, or those that we have just reviewed. After the warm up, the topic will be introduced. The class will follow and I do, We do, you do format. This means, I will review the first few examples. Then we will complete a few examples together and then we will end with a them completing examples independently. There will be homework at the end of most classes and it will be due before the start of the next class. Please note this class will run 3 days a week for 9 weeks during the school year and we will only cover the first four chapters. Students will be encouraged to take part 2 to continue the year course. The topics are as follows: Chapter 1 - The Tools of Algebra Class 1: Words and Expressions Class 2: Variables and Expressions Class 3: Properties Class 4: Ordered Pairs and Relations Class 5: Words, Equations, Tables and Graphs Class 6: Scatter Plots Class 7: Review and Practice Chapter 2 Operations with Integers Class 8: Integers and Absolute Value Class 9: Adding Integers Class 10: Subtracting Integers Class 11: Multiplying and Dividing Integers Class 12: Graphing in 4 Quadrants Class 13:Translations and Reflections on the Coordinate Plane Class 14: Review and Practice Chapter 3 Operations with Rational Numbers Class 15: Fractions and Decimals Class 16: Rational Numbers Class 17: Multiplying Rational Numbers Class 18: Dividing Rational Numbers Class 19: Adding and Subtracting Like Fractions Class 20: Adding and Subtracting Unlike Fractions Class 21: Review and Practice Chapter 4 - Expressions and Equations Class 22: Distributive Property Class 23: Simplifying Algebraic Expressions Class 24: Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting Class 25: Solving Equations by Multiplying or Dividing Class 26: Solving Two-Step Equations and Writing Equations Class 27: Practice and Review

Please note, this class is the 1st class in a series of classes. You do not need any Pre-Algebra knowledge to take this course, however this class only teaches the first 4 chapters of a year long Pre-Algebra Class.
Third Party Tools: This class has the occasional use of Nearpod for review and assessments/quizzes during class and Kahoot for a fun review during class. YouTube video links that can can be viewed at home if the family chooses may be posted in the classroom for extra support on more challenging topics.
Please note: if there isn't anyone in attendance, there will not be a class recording. I will wait in the class for the first ten minutes. If no one arrives after that, I will leave. I will post notes of what was to be discussed during class.

Most materials will be provided by the instructor. This will include worksheets and assignments needed to review. Students will need access to a printer to print notes and assignments. A basic calculator is needed (TI-30x). If students have access to a smart phone or tablet they can use a calculator app similar to Desmos or the website Desmos.com. Students should also have blank paper (lined or unlined) for taking notes and writing examples, graph paper for the graphing sections. A whiteboard and dry erase markers would also be beneficial for interactive reviews.
