Have you ever wanted to learn more about people from a different culture? During this class, students will be introduced to Indian culture through traditional clothing. Students will learn about the most common dress worn by more than 75% of women in the Indian Subcontinent, the sari! We will explore different types of saris and study colors, patterns and designs used to make these beautiful pieces of clothing. Learners will explore the history and progression of Indian fashion based around the sari through slides. Students will learn who can wear a sari, when it is worn and how it is worn and be able to see what real saris look like. By the end of this class, students will have the opportunity to learn how to recreate "a sari look" at home using a long scarf or shawl or fabric by themselves.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My family is originally from India and I grew up in the United States with a unique perspective of two very different cultures. I speak Bengali fluently and visited Kolkata, India very often throughout my life. I have always had a strong desire to share my global perspective with my community and increase multicultural awareness to help promote diversity and inclusion. My goal is to give learners a unique experience about topics they are not very familiar with through stories, pictures and games.
My teaching experience includes being a homeschool mom to two awesome boys ages 7 and 3. I also currently teach a Bengali/Indian appreciation class to local kids in our community. I have volunteered as a teaching assistant at a cooperative preschool for 4 years that used a play-based approach for early life skills and kindergarten readiness.
I hold a Master's degree in Human Resource Management and Development. Most of my professional career has been working for large organizations helping employees succeed with their career goals.
