Writing an essay does not have to be a difficult task; however, many kids struggle when attempting to write essays that will meet academic and testing standards. As an instructional designer and certified teacher, I have taken the time to break down the steps needed to write an essay in a way that is easy for kids ages 8-12 years old to understand and follow along. - When given a writing prompt or topic, 4th grade students will use the prescribed writing process to draft a five-paragraph essay containing an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion during the prescribed time of 120 minutes and using grammatically correct sentences.
