Mo Willems is a Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal winner and his books are loved by early readers. In this class learners will have a chance to turn their love for reading into a love for writing. Each lesson we will read a book, discuss the main elements of the story and then complete a writing and/or drawing activity based on the book. Learners should already be able to read and write. This is a week long camp class. Learners can join for one week or stay for the whole season. Topics may shift based on learner's enrollment. Week 1 (June 6) *Today I Will Fly!* We will discuss how to respect our friends with their dreams and goals. Learners will write and draw their own story. *A Big Guy Took My Ball!* We will discuss fairness, bullying, and sharing. Learners will draw a picture of an unexpected friend and write a description. *My New Friend is So Fun!* We will discuss Gerald and Snakes' feelings of jealousy. Learners will draw a picture for their special friend or family member. *Should I Share My Ice Cream?* Learners draw a picture of their favorite dessert and write several adjectives to describe it. We discuss sharing and why it can be so difficult. *My Friend is Sad.* We will discuss things that make us sad and before reading we will try to predict why Gerald is sad. Learners will write a get well card that can be sent to a local Children's Hospital. Week 2 (June 13): *I Love My New Toy!* Learners can bring in their favorite toy to share with class. We will discuss Piggie's reaction when Gerald broke her toy. We will then write a letter to Piggie or Gerald from the other character. *I Broke My Trunk!* Gerald turns a simple boring story into a elaborate tale. We will think of something ordinary that we did recently and then we will use our imaginations to create an elaborate story. *I am a Frog!* In this lesson we discuss the importance of imagination. Learners are asked to imagine they could be anything they wanted, what would they be and why? *I Will Take a Nap* Learners will talk about dreams that they can remember. Then learners will each create their own wild dream. *The Thank You Book* In this lesson we discuss what it means to be grateful. We will make thank you cards for people in our lives. Week 3 (June 20) *I am Invited to a Party* What are different types of parties? What kind of party would you like to have? Learners will create an imaginary party and make a party invitation. *We are in a Book!* In this lesson we will write our own stories using storyboard drawings and speech bubbles. *Happy Pig Day* In this lesson we will discuss cultural holidays, and create our own special day. *Are You Ready to Play Outside?* In this lesson we will discuss what it is to be a good friend and write down the character traits. *Can I Play Too?* In this lesson we will discuss the importance of being inclusive and write a step by step guide for making inclusive games. More classes will be added for July and August
