All children don’t learn to read at the same pace and time. Some will learn early and some a little later. But we can all find joy in reading books.

The Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems are fun and easy to read but always have a good positive message about friendship. The books also repeat certain words and makes it easier to remember and recognize them.

This book club is for children who can already read a little bit. This class won’t teach the student how to read but we will do activities to strengthen their reading.

We will have class twice a week for 40 minutes each time.

The first class of each week will start with me reading the book so the student can follow along and hear the words.

We will then go over the longer and more complicated words together on the white board. The words will also be in a document you can find in the classroom on Outschool.

The last thing we will do is read it together. Each student gets to read a couple of pages in class.

If they get stuck on a longer word we will use the words on the white board to remember how to read the word.

For the second class the student will get a homework sheet with a few questions to “analyze” the book and an assignment to do by themselves.

For example, the questions can be:

What was your favorite part of the book?

How can you tell what Elephant feels in the book?

How can we cheer someone up who is feeling sad?

The assignment can be:

Draw a picture of Elephant and Piggie

Draw the cover of a book about yourself

Read the book to someone and ask what they think.

For the second class of the week we will discuss the book.

We will go over the longer more complicated words once more.

And we will read the book together again.

We will read these books in the following order

My Friend Is Sad

Waiting Is Not Easy

Happy Pig Day

Can I Play Too

We Are In A Book

You can find the books at the library or at an online bookstore for about 5-10$ each. It is always a good idea to familiarize the student with the books in beforehand.

The students need to be able to read on a beginner level and be able to recognize all the letters.

In my creative writing classes, I encourage students to draw from their experiences and thoughts to create unique pieces and share my passion for writing. This passion has been recognized with four awards for a short story and three poems, which I hope will inspire your students.

I am an immigrant from Sweden with a master's degree in education from Lund/Malmö University.
I am dedicated to forming connections with my students and customizing my teaching to suit their age. I aim to challenge my students while ensuring they never feel like failures. Patience, humor, and kindness are paramount in my approach.

As a teacher, I foster critical thinking through various activities such as research and discussions. The most rewarding part of my job is igniting my students' joy of learning and nurturing their curiosity about the world.

I believe in incorporating play into my teaching whenever possible, as I believe that everyone, regardless of age, has a playful side.

I have previously taught social and political science, religion, and geography and have nearly 25 years of experience working with children of different ages.

My diverse interests include folklore, photography, nature, books, and history, particularly on overlooked historical figures. I hope to share these interests with your students, sparking their curiosity and broadening their horizons.

I eagerly look forward to having your student in my class and am excited to embark on this learning journey together!
