All children don’t learn to read at the same pace and time. Some will learn early and some a little later. But we can all find joy in reading books. The Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems are fun and easy to read but always have a good positive message about friendship. The books also repeat certain words and makes it easier to remember and recognize them. This book club is for children who can already read a little bit. This class won’t teach the student how to read but we will do activities to strengthen their reading. We will have class twice a week for 40 minutes each time. The first class of each week will start with me reading the book so the student can follow along and hear the words. We will then go over the longer and more complicated words together on the white board. The words will also be in a document you can find in the classroom on Outschool. The last thing we will do is read it together. Each student gets to read a couple of pages in class. If they get stuck on a longer word we will use the words on the white board to remember how to read the word. For the second class the student will get a homework sheet with a few questions to “analyze” the book and an assignment to do by themselves. For example, the questions can be: What was your favorite part of the book? How can you tell what Elephant feels in the book? How can we cheer someone up who is feeling sad? The assignment can be: Draw a picture of Elephant and Piggie Draw the cover of a book about yourself Read the book to someone and ask what they think. For the second class of the week we will discuss the book. We will go over the longer more complicated words once more. And we will read the book together again. We will read these books in the following order I Am A Frog Pigs Make Me Sneeze I Broke My Trunk I Really Like Slop Should I Share My Ice Cream You can find the books at the library or at an online bookstore for about 5-10$ each. It is always a good idea to familiarize the student with the books in beforehand. The students need to be able to read on a beginner level and be able to recognize all the letters.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in personal experience. Growing up with dysgraphia, I encountered teachers who left me feeling uncomfortable, insecure, and inadequate. Those experiences shaped my commitment to creating an environment where every student feels welcome, confident, and supported. My goal is to build students up, ensuring they leave my classes with both knowledge and self-assurance.
As a teacher, I bring a wide array of subjects to life in my classes, ranging from creative writing and Swedish (my native language) to world religions, the Holocaust, and novel studies with a focus on folklore. Each subject reflects my passions and areas of expertise, offering students a rich and dynamic learning experience.
With a master’s degree in education and a double major in social and political science and world religions, my professional background equips me to guide students through diverse and complex topics. Having taught across various age groups in Sweden and now the USA, I also incorporate the principles of student democracy, encouraging students to take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.
On a personal note, I’ve always had a vivid imagination—perhaps a result of my Nordic upbringing. As a child in Sweden, I was fascinated yet terrified by the stories of fairies that pervade our folklore. Now, as an immigrant in the USA, I weave that sense of wonder into my own creative works, which have earned me awards for poetry and short stories.
