How do you say snowman in Spanish? How about candy cane? Beginner and intermediate Spanish students will enjoy playing around with Christmas vocabulary in an encouraging but low-pressure environment. Here is our class plan: 1. Get acquainted with the Christmas vocabulary using the games "¿Dónde está?" (Where is it?) and "¿Qué falta?" (What's missing?) 2. Read and discuss a simple story about a family decorating their Christmas tree.* 3. Play Christmas vocabulary bingo. NOTE: The teacher will send you a bingo sheet in a learner message for you to print out and bring to class. 4. If time permits, decorate a Christmas tree together by speaking our new Spanish words. The teacher will use mostly Spanish while striving to keep the highly visual lesson understandable for the students. They will have opportunities to answer and participate using Spanish words or phrases. *The images and vocabulary in the book and bingo game are: Christmas tree, family members, dog, car, mouse, snowflake, snowman, sheep, candy cane, stocking, ball ornament, and presents. The book--"El árbol de Navidad"--was written by the instructor for Spanish-learners about a family putting the above items on and around a Christmas tree.
