Note: We will be starting Semseter 2 in the 2nd week of January 2024. You can also join my Semester 1&2 classes as they are also starting Semester 2 at the same time. All students will get a certificate of attendance with grades if requested.

WELCOME to Semester 2 of the "Earth Science" weekly ongoing class, which focuses on further topics that look at some of the most dramatic physical forces on Earth, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating. I think making learning enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. Each class will cover a stand alone topic and students can join or leave anytime. I recommend doing Semester 1 before this, but it is not essential.

THIS CLASS CAN BE EXTENDED TO MAKE A FULL YEAR CLASS when combined with Semester 1.
Or a TWO YEAR COURSE if Semester 3 is also added. Semester 3 is a full year course.
Semester 1 & 2 can be taken in any order and can be followed up by Semester 3. Semester 3 can also be taken as a stand alone course.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬
In this class we focus on all parts of the Earth Science school curriculum, with a new topic being introduced each week. We cover all the topics I cover in my Exciting Earth Science series one off classes (see below) but can spend more time to explore each topic in more detail. All topics covered are an important part of any child's education in Geology, Meteorology, Weathering, Oceanography and Astronomy.

▬▬▬▬▬ SCHEDULE ▬▬▬▬▬
Semester 2 starts in the 2nd week of January. I can run it in September on request but most people do Semester 1 in Autumn and then Semester 2 in the Spring Semester.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬
I use PowerPoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia (photos & videos) which I think makes the class more accessible and interesting. This class will be in a lecture style with an "intro-questions-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. At the end of the section there is the opportunity to ask questions, although students can also ask questions anytime. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material and then field questions if there are any. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure.

I recommend following this class with Semester 1 if the student hasn't attended that already and if the student would like a more interactive discussion class then please join Semester 3. I also do 4 day camps in the summer based on the same topics. Please contact me to arrange either one-off or ongoing bespoke 1-to1 tuition sessions.

Metas de aprendizaje

Learning goals are based on the National Next Generation Science Standard. After this course students will be able to:

* Describe how the Rock Cyle works
* Analyze different rocks and rock formations
* Explain how science progressed to accept the Plate Tectonics Theory
* Determine why some fossil sites are better than others
* Use a model to explain how the continent of North America formed
* Ask questions about Solar System and the Planets
* Engage in arguments comparing the differences between the Planets
* Understand why we are looking for life under the ice of the Moons of Jupiter and Saturn
* Engage in arguments about how global warming may affect Global Climate Zones
* Determine why certain Earth Systems are harmful to human beings and how to manage that risk

Orientación para padres
Some classes talks about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensitive students may find these topics distressing.
Requisitos previos
No previous experience required.
