The 13 colonies have just been formed and the colonists are busy creating their own communities and ways of life. However, they are unhappy about many aspects regarding their British rule, resulting in many conflicts, arguments and protests. And so begins America's quest for freedom and thus the American Revolution. In this class, students will learn about the American War of Independence, from the French and Indian War, to the Patriots versus Loyalists, to the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation. Students will be provided with detailed descriptions, illustrations and various charts to understand key facts and ideas regarding the American Revolution. Furthermore, students will be posed with various guided discussion questions, as well as encouraged to analyze the impacts of the Revolutionary War and the events surrounding it. The goal of this course is to provide students with background information to 1. give insight into the American War of Independence, and 2. inspire students to appreciate the past as well as the present. All in all, this class will be highly interactive, with the majority of the work happening in the here-and-now of the class session. By the time this class is over, students will not only have a deeper understanding of the creation of the American Revolution, but will also have a renewed appreciation of the past as well as the present.
