Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. As this is a FLEX class, learners are encouraged to watch videos and complete drawing assignments within the four week period.
Evaluación
Instructor will provide informal assessment in the form of written message. Feedback will be specific to learner's ability and level, and will center around art vocabulary and concepts (shape, proportion, value, gesture, shading). Please note that as the instructor I do not expect students to copy the instructor's example, but rather to follow the process and draw according to their own level and ability.

Experiencia de clase

Please note that this is a FLEX class, which means that classes are recorded and students are able to complete assignments on their own time (i.e., there are no live class meetings).

In this FLEX class we will sketch and draw the human figure and learn at least one drawing technique each week as it relates to the subject. This class is for learners who are interested in drawing people and want to learn different drawing techniques related to that. While students are encouraged to follow along with the instructor when drawing, they are also encouraged to implement their own drawing style and creative ideas.

This FLEX class contains four video lessons that build upon each other. The videos present the lesson in the form of a slide presentation (which includes art vocabulary, art technique and photo references), as well as a recording of myself drawing. The photo references in the slide presentation and drawing demonstration show a variety of body types, age, gender, and ethnicity. There will be additional opportunities for learners to reflect on their learning through online discussion, quizzes to reinforce understanding of vocabulary, and recorded feedback. Some discussion points may include: observing and noting things in the photo reference and drawing, identifying and explaining art techniques, and identifying art vocabulary.

Some of the art terminology we will be learning include: gesture, proportion, line, geometric shapes, shading, value (lights and darks). We will learn how to hold the pencil and discuss how to use the materials to achieve the effect we want in our drawings. We will also learn to apply a variety of pencil techniques to our sketches, including: shading, sketching, hatching, and cross-hatching.

The sequence of lessons is as follows:
Lesson 1: Figure in Pose / Drawing with Geometric Shapes / Everyday tasks
Lesson 2: Figure in Motion / Line of Action and Gesture / Athlete
Lesson 3: Seated Figure / Drawing with Ovals / Imagine a Setting
Lesson 4: Figure in Motion / Line of Action, Circular Shapes / Placing a Figure in a Composition / Dancer

Please note that within this age range there will be a wide range of abilities. Some students may be working with the placement of simple shapes, whereas others may know about proportion and shading. I strive to create a supportive classroom environment where all abilities are welcome. I will provide feedback for each drawing, however it will be tailored to the ability/level of the student.
