Experiencia de clase

In this camp, we will meet once a day for four days to explore the basics of drawing anime and manga style bodies. The breakdown for each day is listed below. Each day will include instruction from the teacher, time for students to practice and experiment with the material, and time to share student work at the end of class. Students are encouraged, but not required, to share their drawings.

Day 1: Bodies. On day 1, we will introduce ourselves and talk about our favorite anime & manga. Then we will learn the basics of drawing a body in anime style. We will start by sketching a basic outline to get the right proportions. Then we will fill in the body with basic shapes such as circles and cylinders. Then we will make adjustments to those shapes to create the final body. We will discuss the differences between drawing male and female body types. Students are welcome to customize their character for whatever body type they want to draw.

Day 2: Hands and Feet. On day 2, we will learn about drawing hands and feet. We will finish the character we started the previous day and draw in their hands and feet.

Day 3: Action Poses. On day three, we will warm up with gesture drawings. This will introduce students to the basics of capturing movement in dynamic poses. Then we will draw a character step-by-step together in an active pose, utilizing the skills we learned in the gesture drawing exercise, as well as the proportions learned in the previous days.

Day 4: Clothing. On day 4, we will learn how to draw clothing in anime & manga style. First, we will learn how to draw a Japanese school uniform, which includes a short-sleeved shirt, pleated skirt, and sailor collar. Then we will look at how to draw pants. If we have time, we will also look briefly at how to draw shoes. By drawing these outfits, students will learn techniques that can be applied to other styles of clothing as well. (**please note that a printout will be provided for day 4)

Otros detalles

Orientación para padres
Please note that we will be drawing the outline of a human body without clothing for the first few days of camp. While we will draw simple lines to convey essential parts of the body (such as the curve of the chest), we will NOT be drawing any intimate details or genitalia within the outline. We will essentially be drawing the body with the same amount (or lack of) detail as an unclothed Barbie doll. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me before class.

Hello! My name is Emily. I’m a teacher, writer, yogi, and artist. I have a passion for words, movement, art, and food! It brings me so much joy to see young learners discover new interests. I am delighted to be able to help them explore new topics and fan the flames of their interest.

My philosophy is that learning should be fun. In class, I love getting to know my students. I want to hear their thoughts and give them the tools to pursue their passions.

On Outschool, I am excited to offer classes in drawing in anime/manga style. I have a variety of classes that focus on different aspects of drawing. My class list is continually growing. I love to share what I am passionate about with young learners and encourage their ideas and interests.

One of the things that makes me unique as a teacher is my wide range of teaching experience. I have worked with students in kindergarten, middle school, college, and beyond. I have taught students in the USA, South Korea, and China. I have taught classes online and in person. These experiences make me a well-rounded teacher accustomed to adapting teaching style and lesson content to a wide range of students’ needs.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Dance and English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Wesleyan University. I have also completed yoga teacher training and studied traditional Irish singing at the University of Limerick. Both of my parents are artists, and I have a life-long passion for the arts. I have worked with students from kindergarten to college age. I have taught subjects including dance, art, Spanish, and more. I recently spent four years living in South Korea where I taught English as a second language in public middle schools and private kindergarten.

When I am not teaching, I can be found reading, dancing, working on my latest novel, or playing with my cats.
