Students will follow me as we draw a generic cartoon dog (they can tweak features, but this is not one of their pets as it's not as easy to "loosen up" and bold choices when painting your own pet. I can attest to this! LOL) Then we will use a fine tip black pen to outline our dog (a pen that won't smear when getting wet with paint). We will pour out a little from several colors that the student likes. They should have darker values, medium and light. (In my sample, I used a med blue, emerald green, medium pink, yellow and a "Paynes gray" for very dark outline at the end). Your student can choose the colors they would like together. This is not a realistic portrait, so keep the colors fun..no brown and black dogs. LOL We'll learn to paint loosely, mix colors and learn where to use the lighter shades and the darker shades, after talking about "light source" and "shadows" for their painting.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a full time Gig/LIVE Caricature Artist for weddings, corporate events, parties, etc. and while that is my “bread & butter”, I love teaching what I’ve learned to kids on Outschool.
I have an education degree and many years of experience teaching and creating art, from fine art to crafty projects, from artful home projects to designing and painting theatre sets for plays and musicals on the stage.
I love to teach children the value of creating art that is a personal and meaningful expression of themselves, helping them loosen up and enjoy the process, the missteps and the "That's good enough to sell!" moments. LOL.
Open mics and sharing are encouraged.
I teach from my whimsical art studio in North Carolina and hope to see your child in a class soon. ~Penny
** Look for CARICATURE ART CAMPS coming up this summer. Each week, we will learn a new technique and enjoy working on our projects together in class. Three and 5-day camps will be available.
