This class will be in an online lecture format with a slideshow presentation. It is an ideal lecture for those who are interested in the Victorian Era, the literature of Charles Dickens, or the history of diseases. In the class, we will look at contemporary and literary accounts of diseases and illnesses that were prominent during the mid-to-late 1800s. Among the diseases that will be covered are whooping cough, scarlet fever, typhoid, tuberculosis, and cholera. Additionally, we will discuss Victorian dentistry, important figures in the world of medicine (John Snow, Louis Pasteur, and Joseph Lister), and sanitation reforms. While the class will consist mostly of lecture points, I do highly encourage both discussion and questions in my classes.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will have a better understanding of diseases and related reforms in the Victorian Era.
